Overview
We are looking for an experienced Structural Steel Fitter / Layout Technician to join a fabrication shop team. This position focuses on preparing, positioning, fitting, and assembling structural steel components while ensuring accurate dimensions and proper alignment.
What You'll Do
- Read and work from blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications .
- Complete steel layout, fitting, alignment, and assembly according to job requirements.
- Measure, mark, and prepare materials for fabrication.
- Position and secure steel pieces to achieve accurate fit-up and assembly.
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including a track torch .
- Check dimensions, alignment, fit-up, and component placement throughout the fabrication process.
- Inspect finished assemblies for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
- Work with supervisors and other fabrication personnel to maintain production schedules.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow established shop safety requirements and production procedures.
Qualifications
- Previous experience with structural steel fitting, layout, or fabrication .
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings .
- Hands-on experience fitting, aligning, and assembling structural steel components.
- Ability to set up and operate a track torch .
- Working knowledge of welding processes, fabrication equipment, and shop tools .
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to follow all required safety procedures.
- AWS or other welding certifications are a plus.
