This position focuses on preparing, positioning, fitting, and assembling structural steel components while ensuring accurate dimensions and proper alignment. Overview

We are looking for an experienced Structural Steel Fitter / Layout Technician to join a fabrication shop team. This position focuses on preparing, positioning, fitting, and assembling structural steel components while ensuring accurate dimensions and proper alignment.

What You'll Do

  • Read and work from blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications .
  • Complete steel layout, fitting, alignment, and assembly according to job requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and prepare materials for fabrication.
  • Position and secure steel pieces to achieve accurate fit-up and assembly.
  • Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including a track torch .
  • Check dimensions, alignment, fit-up, and component placement throughout the fabrication process.
  • Inspect finished assemblies for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
  • Work with supervisors and other fabrication personnel to maintain production schedules.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
  • Follow established shop safety requirements and production procedures.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with structural steel fitting, layout, or fabrication .
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings .
  • Hands-on experience fitting, aligning, and assembling structural steel components.
  • Ability to set up and operate a track torch .
  • Working knowledge of welding processes, fabrication equipment, and shop tools .
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to follow all required safety procedures.
  • AWS or other welding certifications are a plus.
