Overview

JOB SUMMARY: Outline the job description and specific responsibilities of the Administrative Nursing Supervisor. The Administrative Supervisor position has responsibility for providing administrative expertise and leadership in the identification and resolution of patient and unit related problems, using all relevant resources to affect resolutions. During evening, night, weekend and holiday hours, the Administrative Supervisor has the delegated responsibility to represent Administration on site and will communicate directly with the Administrator on –call as needed for definitive resolution procedures. This position is responsible for the coordination of nursing units’ staffing in collaboration with the individual unit directors. Additional responsibilities include monitoring and compliance assurances pertaining to safety, wage/hour, employment discrimination, accreditation, licensure, certification, reimbursement or other necessary regulatory approvals. The Administrative Supervisor is responsible for both nursing staff employees and contracted nursing staff performance in accordance with the scope of practice and delivery of safe patient care through the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation based on established clinical nursing practice standards. This position is also responsible for assisting in the selection, development and on- going evaluation of the staffing office personnel in their work setting. The Administrative Supervisor supports the GMC organizational vision and mission. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values of AHMC. The employee shall support GMC strategic plan, goals and direction of the performance improvement plan. The employee will also be expected to support all organizational expectations including, but limited to; Customer Service, Patient’s Rights, Confidentiality of information (HIPAA), environment of care and AHMC initiatives. Utilizes knowledge of age, spiritual, cultural, and population specific care concepts to contribute to the provision of quality of care that lead to positive outcomes in patient care. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Currently licensed to practice nursing in California
  • A minimum of three years of acute care experience.
  • A minimum of one year as acute care supervisor experience
  • Current BCLS Card, NIHSS Current and maintain (AHA)
  • Current and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) AHA
  • Current and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider
  • BSN preferred

Responsibilities

Assures appropriate patient to staff relations along with department directors to meet the staffing productivity standards based on patient care needs and the age of population served. Resolves all problems associated with patients, physicians equipment and facility in a timely manner so there is no disruptions in the quality of care to the customers we serve. Functions as a role model by providing leadership and expertise to members of the team. Ensures Unit Director, Administrator and other department heads are notified of any incidences in a timely manner. Effectively provides shift to shift communication to ensure continuity of information and follow up. Shows accountability and responsibility for contracted personal by maintaining all files to meet DHS, Joint Commission and other regulations and standards. Documentation of hospital operational activities is written in a concise and timely manner.

  • Accurately completes hours report for end of shift summary to ensure administrative communications are maintained.
  • Nightly verifies and records hospital midnight census on House report. Additional census tally is recorded at specific times as evidenced from each department. Provides clinical resources as needed to the staff through direct clinical intervention or provision of appropriate clinical expertise. Provides for the supervision of the patient care and nurse staffing systems. Collaborates with case management staff to identify patient placement and utilization needs. Coordinates the admissions of patients and transfers into the hospital during all hours. Provides staffing coordination for after-hours specialty procedures. Oversees the assignment of specific staff based on personnel competency. Serves as mentor or role models as needed by providing a learning environment that facilitates the training of registry or contracted nursing staff. Oversees the Patient Care Classification system records and maintenance. Coordinates all nursing units’ staffing in collaboration with the individual Unit Directors. Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently oversee care in emergency situations. Functions within the realm of established procedures and protocols and utilizes critical thinking to analyze problems, prioritize interventions and take appropriate action. Demonstrates sound judgment and decision making. Responds to all code Blue calls house wide. Facilitates the on-duty employee work injury program in the absence of the Director. Coordinates HICS initiation in the event of an internal or external disaster. Openly shares information, perceptions and feedback in a constructive manner. Promotes open communication/discussion with clinical directors, managers, physicians and administration to ensure patient care needs and operational processes are effectively rendered in a timely manner. Interacts with ancillary departments to ensure patient’s needs and operational processes are met in a timely manner. Communicates effectively with physicians to assure satisfactory collaborative interactions. Provides feedback directly to the Director in a timely manner through verbal and written communications. Routinely makes administrative rounds to each unit throughout the shift and as needed to address problems with follow up as appropriate. Communicates with all departments to diffuse destructive gossip and rumors in support of nursing administration. Accountable and responsible for controlling cost or generating revenue while providing maximum value to both the patient/customer and the hospital. Consistently applies infection control policies. Ensures that standard precautions are implemented for self and others during patient care activities. Ensures practice of appropriate disease specific isolation by staff MD’s, Patient’s and families. As observed and through verbal and written feedback from patients, family members/significant others, medical staff, visitors and coworkers indicates behavior conducive to positive guest relationships. Consistently exhibits appropriate phone protocol in relation to patients, visitors, physicians and staff. Serves as advocate for patients, families and staff as circumstances require. Provides leadership and clear direction to all members of the healthcare team.
  • Serves as a resource to unit clinical coordinators in developing solutions to patient care issues.
  • Challenges traditional practices and actively pursues positive change. Performs Patient Satisfaction Rounding. Address any issues or concerns. Assist and interact to Co-ordinate Plan of Care. Functions as patient advocate. Report to Unit Director as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.
