Job Description We have multiple openings for an Engineering Technical Supervisor to lead multi-disciplinary teams of technologists supporting S300 firing operations. You will be an administrative supervisor and have technical responsibilities in support of Weapons Physics Programs and S300 firing operations. You will be responsible for personnel actions involving employees including selection, performance evaluations, salary recommendations, promotions and corrective actions. You will regularly interact with NSED division leadership, program managers, diagnostic leads, project engineers and scientists. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate. These positions will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned at the higher level. These positions require full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work. In this role, you will

  • Lead and provide technical and direct administrative supervision and oversight to a minimum of 8 individuals in mechanical, electronics, and coordination disciplines, including personnel actions and administration of policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to apply innovative expertise in defining functional requirements, solving complex technical and resource problems, and evaluating alternative design concepts consistent with schedule, cost, and material limitations.
  • Perform personnel related functions, including recruiting, hiring, and retention activities, performance evaluation and alignment, salary management, influencing the work environment to foster staff development, employee morale, and making recommendations on promotion and disciplinary action for group members.
  • Participate in planning, budgeting, decision making, and change processes, including modifying guidelines, techniques, and procedures.
  • Maintain close relationships with and provide technical support to group leaders and program management to ensure timely, cost-effective execution of supportive engineering services.
  • Develop, prepare, present, participate, and/or lead required design reviews, reports, procedures, and other communication in support of technical and administrative assignments.
  • Provide oversight of engineering design, fabrication, and assembly processes, ensuring quality adherence to programmatic standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Additional job responsibilities, at the 390.2 level
  • Provide highly advanced oversight and supervision to plan, direct, coordinate, and review highly complex projects.
  • Analyze and interpret highly complex administrative and technical information and project objectives to translate them into job requirements and concepts, implementing solutions and alternate approaches to solve complex problems.
  • Direct significant advanced assembly, maintenance, installation, research and/or development operations.

Qualifications

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Engineering Technology, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Advanced technical skills and experience within one or more technology areas relating to Strategic Deterrence (SD) firing operations, Photonic Doppler Velocimetry (PDV), Broadband Laser Ranging (BLR), high-speed imaging, Flash X-Ray (FXR), accelerator systems, electronics or related technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience providing administrative and technical leadership through effective utilization of people and available resources.
  • Advanced technical leadership and administrative skills, including proficiency in computers and software such as Office 365.
  • Ability and experience with project leadership, laboratory work planning and control, and reporting processes.
  • Ability to assemble and direct teams to complete scientific projects or resolve complex technical problems in a safe and secure manner.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and collaboration skills to effectively interact and communicate with people at all levels, present and explain technical information, provide feedback to direct reports, and ensure program requirements are conveyed in a timely manner. Additional qualifications at the 390.2 level
  • Highly advanced knowledge and technical experience utilized in planning, interpreting, and reviewing complex data sets and work of others and using independent judgement and responsibility for approving technical direction.
  • Highly advanced verbal, written, feedback and presentation skills necessary to supervise a team, present, explain technical knowledge, and provide guidance to management, regulators, reviewers, and stakeholders.
  • Highly advanced technical leadership and technical decision-making skills in one or more technology areas of the work unit.

Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience including performance and personnel management.
  • Strong working knowledge of LLNL work control processes at S300.
  • Experience handling or working with High Explosive assemblies.
  • Significant experience in machine tool operation, welding and fabrication, electronics fabrication, linear accelerators, or fielding of diagnostics.
  • Experience with programmatic elements associated with the Strategic Deterrence Principal Directorate, such as the Weapons Physics and Design program (WPD), Weapon Technologies and Engineering program (WTE), Chemistry and Materials Science, and other experimental activities. Pay Range $137,790 - $204,216 Annually $137,790 - $168,732 Annually for the 390.1 level $166,740 - $204,216 Annually for the 390.2 level This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
