Who we are: Karma Yoga Mission Statement: Karma Yoga strives to create upbeat movement classes built around the core concepts of yoga. Our ultimate goal is to cultivate a space where like-minded people can gather, grow, move and inspire one another on and off the mat. Instructor Job Description: As an instructor at Karma Yoga, it is your responsibility to embody the culture of our studio and instructional style.

All instructors act as a concrete pillar of the business at Karma Yoga, they lead by example, foster a positive and productive space for clients to gather, grow and move. At Karma Yoga we strive to create a consistent and welcoming experience for all of our guests no matter which instructor they choose and this is why it is essential that you understand and commit to the enrolling practice taught at our studio. In your role you are responsible for monitoring and instructing clients during class by educating them on correct form and alternative poses.

All instructors are to attentively listen to our clients, answer questions and engage in conversation before and after class, when applicable, in addition to providing excellent customer service by promptly responding to members’ needs and conc erns. All instructors teaching on the Digital Platform are to follow guidelines and instructional style when filming. All filming photos and videos are property of Karma Yoga and can’t be re-distributed by any other party or person.

  • Policies and Procedures As an Instructor at Karma Yoga you practice all standards of professionalism, implement all actions from the Karma Yoga handbook and communicate when actions and expectations may need to be revised due to the growth of the business.

Requirements

Please note that the Instructor Contract is subject to change without notice, at the discretion of Karma Yoga San Francisco, LLC and are not fixed terms in perpetuity. Any and all updates will be shared with all current instructors via email.

  • Attend all instructor meetings required for maintaining a time slot at Karma Yoga
  • Active participant in class attendance, guidance is at least 50 classes within a year from start date (date noted in your offer letter) Class attendance will determine growth in studio, subbing opportunities, pay increase, classes on the schedule, highlighted time slots.
  • Practice Professionalism and Confidentiality : Your role, pay, benefits and discounts are confidential information
  • Marina Tek and ClassPass, information is private and under the rights of Karma Yoga; information can not be used for promotion and/or student engagement
  • Partnerships are to be used for Karma Yoga employees only (this includes the use of discounts of facilities)
  • Practice professionalism; we have no tolerance for gossip, below the line conversations, or bad attitudes in the workplace
  • Instructors view and implement all actions and practices through the lens of the business and respect the roles of each employee at Karma Yoga and commit to respecting the demands and priorities of all positions
  • Drugs & alcohol are not permitted on site or at Karma Yoga functions, unless otherwise specified
  • Start & end class on time. Be mindful of your students time and prior commitments
  • All rentals are full price for all employees & instructors of Karma Yoga; discounts are for retail purchases only
  • Instructor Class Attendance: You will be charged normal client fees for “No Show/Late Cancel”. If you are not able to attend class, please cancel yourself out to allow space for our clientele. Frequent “no shows, no cancels” will result in a conversation with management.
  • Class Attendance/Participation: Show up on time, stay the entirety of class, no leaving early. Please follow the sequence of the instructor and be respectful
  • Presentation: dress appropriately, hair up, and if wearing jewelry please refrain from wearing anything that will interfere with the practice to avoid any distractions. Please shower and brush your teeth
  • Non-Compete: All Instructors agree that they will not teach Inferno Hot Pilates, HIIT or Yoga classes anywhere in San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area, unless agreed upon hiring, while employed by Karma Yoga San Francisco, LLC. As always, please be transparent with your management team with any and all questions that may arise.
  • Non-Compete: All Instructors agree that they will not lead, co-lead or organize retreats while employed by Karma Yoga San Francisco, LLC.
  • Non-Compete: All instructors agree that they will not teach any classes online that are not offered or affiliated by Karma Yoga, Yoga (any style) Hot Pilates, Weights and/or any HIIT style classes.
  • Non-Compete: All instructors agree that any classes taught that are HIIT style, Hot Pilates, Yoga under the employment of Karma Yoga will get prior written approval from the owner and management team. Hours / Subs / Attendance:
  • Subbing: All subbing requests go through: [email protected] , 14 days in advance. Subs after this date are considered late. Subs within 48 hours need an immediate text to Carrie. Two emergency subs within a month will result in release of classes.
  • Digital Classes: All digital scheduled classes are to be treated as a regular scheduled class.
  • LIVE or  Pre-Recorded, arrive 15 minutes early to start time. * It is your responsibility to always clock in upon arrival, (3 late arrivals may lead to disciplinary action including but not limited to termination)
  • Pre-recorded classes will be scheduled out, if you’re are unable to make a scheduled please request a cancellation through: [email protected] 14 days in advance
  • Subs after this date are considered late. Subs within 48 hours need an immediate text to Carrie. Two emergency subs within a month will result in release of classes. Arrival Expectations &  Class Prep:
  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to your class * It is your responsibility to always clock in upon arrival, (3 late arrivals may lead to disciplinary action including but not limited to termination)
  • Digital Classes: Pre-Recorded, arrive 15 minutes early to start time. * It is your responsibility to always clock in upon arrival, (3 late arrivals may lead to disciplinary action including but not limited to termination)
  • Pre-recorded classes will be scheduled out, if you’re are unable to make a scheduled please request a cancellation through: [email protected] 14 days in advance
  • Digital Classes: LIVE Classes, arrive 15 minutes early to start time. * It is your responsibility to always clock in upon arrival, (3 late arrivals may lead to disciplinary action including but not limited to termination)
  • LIVE classes will be scheduled out, if you’re are unable to make a LIVE class please request a sub through: [email protected] 14 days in advance
  • Under no circumstances are you to ever clock in anyone other than yourself, as this will lead to immediate termination for both parties
  • Set up music downstairs
  • Teachers are required to play music via their personal phone. All playlists must be pre-downloaded and phones charged *Once music is set up, return i-pod to front desk
  • Communication: Please always report lighting, heat & music issues to the front desk
  • At no time should teachers be behind the front desk, at a computer checking in or directing students through the check-in process. This is to ensure that all check-in protocols are properly followed by the Front Desk team
  • Prepare & clean up space before & after class: Lights, Heat, Music, Straps, Blocks, Bolsters
  • If teaching in the Big Room assure that the back door is completely shut
  • When plugging in your phone, make sure that it is in the “Do Not Disturb” setting to avoid class interruption
  • After your room is set up, be a smiling face and calming presence to the side of the front desk during busy check-ins After class:
  • Make sure to review + complete your checklist, setting up the room for the next teacher and/or closing out the room if there is no class.
  • Communicate anything that is necessary for Front Desk after class. Company Policies: During your onboarding and employment you will be required to read and comply with the Company's Handbook. The Handbook provides additional details regarding your employment, employee discounts, personal accountability and integrity about all hours worked.
