Below, you’ll find other important information about this position. Provides intraoperative care to patients by functioning as the scrub person assisting the surgical team during operative procedures. Serves as a scrub mentor to others performing the scrub role on service cases.

Assists RN Service Line Coordinator to standardize instrumentation. Contributes input into the updating of preference cards used within the service line. Assists with the care and monitoring of service equipment and supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Associate Degree in Healthcare   Field   and   five   (5) years of   Surgical Technology experience OR   completion of a Surgical Technology Program   a nd seven (7) years of   Surgical Technology experience 2. Surgical Technologist certification 3.

Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within   30 days   of hire date. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: 1. Five   (5)   years of advanced knowledge in desired specialty.

2. Advanced knowledge of three specialties. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being   performed by people assigned to this position.

Utilizes   quality aseptic technique when working in an unsterile or sterile role in the OR. 2. Assists   the circulating RN in monitoring technique of all   persons   in the OR to   maintain   a sterile field.

3. Performs sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN following established guidelines. 4.

Assists with gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments. 5. Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during a surgical procedure.

6. Assists with transportation and positioning of the patients to include   assisting   the surgical team by holding retractors and position of   operative limb under direction of surgeon 7. Prepares supplies and equipment for surgical procedure following preference cards.

8. Assists with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment. 9.

Monitors inventory; orders; and   restocks   supplies, instruments, and equipment. 10. Removes out-of-date items and discards or reprocesses following established guidelines.

11. Assists with the general cleaning duties of the department. 12.

Performs equipment   checks as   assigned. 13. Assists with the proper recording of patient charges.

14. Call with a response time of 30 minutes. 15.

Serves as a mentor to the team and supports the development of level one, two, & three technologists 16. Participates   in unit-based education activities and may   participate   in presenting in-services for the staff. Demonstrates   and can   articulate rationale for clinical practice. 2. Demonstration of clinical ability to fulfill calls responsibilities; usually requires six   months   work experience at WVUH.

Additional Job Description: This job requires orientation and training at Ruby Memorial. All employees hired to Fairmont Medical Center Surgical Services are expected to train to different service lines as need and time allows.
