This position focuses on preparing, positioning, fitting, and assembling structural steel components while ensuring accurate dimensions and proper alignment. Overview
We are looking for an experienced Structural Steel Fitter / Layout Technician to join a fabrication shop team. This position focuses on preparing, positioning, fitting, and assembling structural steel components while ensuring accurate dimensions and proper alignment.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications .
- Perform structural steel layout, fitting, alignment, and assembly .
- Measure, mark, and prepare steel materials for fabrication.
- Position and secure components for proper fit-up and assembly.
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including a track torch .
- Verify dimensions, alignment, fit-up, and component placement during fabrication.
- Inspect completed assemblies for accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications.
- Coordinate with supervisors and shop personnel to meet production schedules.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow required shop safety procedures and production practices.
Requirements
- Experience in structural steel fitting, layout, or fabrication .
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings .
- Hands-on experience fitting, aligning, and assembling structural steel.
- Ability to set up and operate a track torch .
- Working knowledge of welding processes, fabrication equipment, and shop tools.
- Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
- Team-oriented approach and ability to work effectively with others.
- Commitment to following required safety procedures.
- AWS or other welding certifications are a plus.
