Class A CDL Heavy Equipment & Rail Operations Technician Location: Allentown, PA Job Type: Direct Hire – Full-Time Starting Pay: $26.00/hour + overtime; higher pay may be available based on experience We are hiring an experienced Class A CDL Equipment Operator for field-based rail and heavy equipment operations. This position involves transporting equipment, supporting emergency re-railing work, and assisting with rail maintenance, equipment recovery, load transfers, and related construction activities. This position involves transporting equipment, supporting emergency re-railing work, and assisting with rail maintenance, equipment recovery, load transfers, and related construction activities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct DOT-compliant pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment.
- Safely transport tractors, trailers, machinery, materials, and other equipment to and from job sites.
- Inspect loads and verify permits for overweight and oversized transportation.
- Participate in daily work planning and safety briefings.
- Load, unload, move, and stage equipment and materials for field operations.
- Support rerailing, load adjustment/transfer, railroad car maintenance and repair, and track maintenance, repair, and construction .
- Assist with crane and equipment assembly, inspection, setup, and operation.
- Help rig chains, cables, and winches during recovery operations.
- Operate equipment such as cranes, backhoes, grapple trucks, dump trucks, excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, rail-bound equipment, tractors, and skid-steer loaders , when qualified.
- Use hydraulic tools, welding equipment, cutting torches, electrical tools, and common hand tools .
- Monitor trucks and equipment to identify issues and maintain operational readiness.
- Perform and document minor equipment and vehicle service; report major mechanical problems to the Shop Manager or Foreman.
- Assist with crane and equipment disassembly and loading when field assignments are completed.
- Reload equipment and materials and help clean and organize job sites.
- Restock vehicles and equipment with required parts, components, and supplies after returning to the home base.
- Sort and place scrap materials in designated areas.
- Keep vehicles, equipment, tools, and work areas clean, organized, and free of debris.
- Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
- Assist other departments or divisions as needed to support operational requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a good driving record.
- Experience in construction labor, field service, or another physically demanding role.
- Ability to successfully complete required qualification, training, and safety programs.
- Ability to respond to emergency service calls 24/7 , including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Preferred Experience
- 3+ years operating heavy equipment , including backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, grapple trucks, rail-bound equipment, tractors, and skid-steer loaders.
- Equivalent combination of training and practical experience will also be considered.
