Overview

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fabrication Manager to lead daily production across two nearby facilities and two shifts. This role provides hands-on leadership to production supervisors while overseeing safety, equipment and facility needs, fabrication performance, quality, scheduling, and on-time shipments. The ideal candidate has a strong structural steel background, experience with AISC and AWS standards, knowledge of coating requirements, and a proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple complex fabrication projects.

This position oversees approximately 65 employees, with growth toward 90, across both locations and shifts, including approximately 5–6 department/shop supervisors. The role reports to the VP of Operations and supports workforce planning, hiring and retention, employee development, disciplinary matters, continuous improvement, succession planning, and production scheduling. Key Responsibilities

  • Direct daily operations across both fabrication facilities and two shifts.
  • Lead production supervisors and provide hands-on support to shop teams.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure safe operation of facilities and equipment.
  • Monitor fabrication efficiency, quality, workflow, and production schedules.
  • Coordinate work to meet shipping and delivery commitments.
  • Oversee departments including Receiving/Inventory, CNC Processing, Fabrication/Welding, Paint, and Shipping .
  • Support facility and equipment maintenance activities.
  • Manage multiple large or complex fabrication projects simultaneously.
  • Assist with workforce planning, recruiting, retention, training, and employee development.
  • Participate in disciplinary actions, succession planning, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Identify potential production issues and improvement opportunities before they affect operations.
  • Work closely with the VP of Operations on operational priorities and business needs.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of structural steel fabrication experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or production.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 ; CWI certification preferred but not required.
  • Experience in an AISC-certified shop or fabrication environment.
  • Background with large, heavy, or technically complex steel fabrication projects.
  • Working knowledge of SSPC and ASTM coating requirements .
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes, shop workflows, and production practices.
  • Experience managing multiple departments or production functions.
  • Strong communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate operational challenges and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
